My ongoing dedication to teaching has been recognized with teaching awards from Washington University, which I believe reflect well of my commitment to pedagogy and professional development and my creativity and on-going efforts to design new course components around engaging themes.
My commitment to pedagogy and professional development
The Language Learning and Teaching Workshop Series
In 2016, I launched The Language Learning & Teaching (LLT) Workshop Series in the SHSU Department of World Languages and Cultures. Through this series, I help facilitate important discussions around teaching practices. Moreover, the LLT Workshop Series serves as a forum to exchange teaching experiences and ideas. Past workshops include discussions on diversity, cultural competency, and writing-to-learn activities. Future workshops will include integrating cultural content form first semester onward, effective assessments and evaluations, etc.
Association of College and University Educators
In 2017-2018, I was an ACUE fellow. As such, I followed the ACUE's Course in Effective Teaching Practices that includes five units:
Throughout the units, I was able to implement new techniques in my classroom. The teaching modules covered topics as diverse as "Engaging Underprepared Students," "Using Concept Maps and other Visualization," and "Developing Self-Directed Learners." After completing the five units, I was awarded the ACUE's Certificate in Effective Teaching College Instructions.
