Siham Bouamer, Ph.D.
I am an Assistant Professor of French and Francophone studies at the University of Cincinnati. I hold a Ph.D. in French Literature and a certificate in women, gender, and sexuality studies from Washington University in St. Louis. My research specialization is in francophone and postcolonial studies with a special focus on twentieth- to twenty-first-century French and North African literature and film, especially transnational movements from/to the Maghreb. I also have a broad comparative interest in my research by reaching into disciplines such as Arabic, cultural, gender, and queer studies.
Currently, I am working on my first book project provisionally titled Colonial Tourists: French Women's Travel Narratives on Morocco . Other research focuses on contemporary 20th & 21st-century French cultural, film, and literary studies; queer and women Maghrebi writers; critical pedagogy with an emphasis on diversity and decolonization in French studies.
I have taught across the curriculum, ranging from introductory to advanced language and culture studies courses. I have developed new courses in film, culture, business, and healthcare. I have also regularly taught courses in the Honors College. For instance, after co-teaching courses on "Black Lives Matter" and "Fake News", I conceptualized and taught new courses for the program on Islamophobia, #MeToo, and most recently on Global Migration.
I am also involved in various diversity and inclusion initiatives nationwide. In 2019, I have co-found the Diversity, Decolonization, and the French Curriculum collective. I am also currently serving in the MLA LLC Francophone executive committee (twitter @LLCFrancophone), Associate Editor for the journal CFC Intersections, and Book Review Editor for CFC.
